UK Chess Challenge

The UK Chess Challenge is a national competition run in schools throughout the country.

There are thousands of children who take part in all types of primary school.  Each school has its own mini competition held over 7 weeks and children earn points,  a badge and other prizes  as they go. The children who score enough points then go on to  the next stage -  the magafinal which is a regional round, and from there the best kids go on to the gigafinal in Manchester, then ultimately the Terafinal (which I  think is the top 150  kids).

This year we had around 90 children from years 2-6 playing in the school round, which is fantastic. They played brilliantly and with  some really great chess matches.  The atmosphere when they are playing is lovely as they are all enjoying it and so keen (and we encourage the children to  win and loose graciously).  2 children (Ben and Asta) got through to the Terafinal which puts them among the very best.
