Spring Term News
1st April 2017
Hope you haven't tricked anyone this morning!
What a fab way to end the term with treat afternoon, I really enjoyed it!
This holiday you don't have any actual Mathletics homework but we are trying really hard to improve our fluency in maths. I would like you to go on the website
HIT THE BUTTON http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
and see if you can gradually improve. If you play for 15 minutes every day on the areas you feel least confident, your scores and time will improve!
I would also like you to focus on the Year 3 and 4 spellings, see how many you can spell correctly. It would be great if you could do half of them, then you have year 4 to learn the other half!
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help with swimming- it would be great if we could have a few more especially for 8th June! The rota is in resources if you would like to see the dates.
Have a great Easter break class 8, enjoy yourself and come back all refreshed and ready to go for the last 1/3 of Year 3!
See you soon
TREAT AFTERNOON FRIDAY 30th PM. We have decided to have non uniform, bring teddies and watch Spiderwick Chronicles. What a fantastic way to end the term!
What a different week that was...for me! It was great to see you all on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning! Your Titanium stories using the slow write approach were fabulous, amazing vocabulary used and brilliant sentences. We are becoming much more confident writers.
We enjoyed that maths on Friday- using out powers of deduction, using clues to match people and names. I love doing puzzles like that.
Comic Relief- Annie was famous for the day! She had a rare grey nose! You all looked great in your red noses. A BIG THANK YOU to Daisy and Martha for baking lots of cakes to raise even more money.
We are approaching our last week of term 2!
Numeracy- problem solving using skills we have already learnt, We are showing that we have 'mastered' these concepts.
Literacy- Persuasive writing, Why visit Nottingham.
Topic- How have Nottingham and Barcelona changed over time and why has that changed happened?
I am not teaching on Thursday but will see you on Wednesday and Friday as normal.
Make the most of this lovely sunny weather- get outside and have a play!
See you Wednesday
Morning all! Hope you are having a fab weekend. Last week was a bit busy with running around the field at top speed, 'running for our lives'. The Literacy work that came out of that lesson was great- you used some fabulous words and phrases after experiencing the feelings of the boy in the video your selves. I hope that you will use them in your own versions!
Literacy- Editing and improving independent write. REALLY show off what you can now do as a writer. We will before finishing off our Titanium stories with me on Thursday Friday.
Numeracy- Fractions and using our knowledge to reason and problem solve.
Topic- Finishing off last week's work of looking at difference in countryside and city living.
I am going on a residential with Miss Kirk's class tomorrow and will not be back until Thursday. You will have Mrs Hazelden on Wednesday morning and normal PE and music on Wednesday afternoon.
I will see you for swimming on Thursday! Have a lovely week and see you on Thursday- I will pop in and say Hello and Goodbye before leaving tomorrow.
Last week, we formed supernatural powers that cause chaos in a school!
Literacy; It's OK, don't panic parents...and Miss Law! It is our literacy for this half term. We are basing our writing on a music video called Titanium. A character has supernatural powers he cannot control which cause destruction and havoc in school. We have already started to use words we would not usually use in our writing. This week we will be looking at the emotions the character may be feeling and using fab verbs and adjectives to write about them We may even be experiencing some first hand to make our writing really come to life!
Maths; We have started work on fractions- what do numerators and denominators actually mean, finding fractions of amounts, adding/subtracting fractions and deciding which fraction was bigger- 1/2 1/3 or 1/4. This week we will be investigating equivalent fractions- they don't look the same but are the same 'size'.
Topic; After looking at rural landscape around Nottingham and Barcelona we will be moving onto looking at city life and why people may choice to live in the city.
It was great meeting your parents and sharing the progress you have made in your learning so far. I hope they were proud of you. I have given them information that may help especially with your literacy homework, to make it super brilliant! Use the maths links at the top of the page to work on the areas that you have particularly tricky.
Have a fab Sunday and see you around tomorrow Class 8.
Parents Evening week
A busy week for Mrs Hazelden and I. A normal week for you!
Literacy- Story writing using our best sentence structures
Numeracy- Introduction to fractions and comparing them.
Topic- Why live in the countryside in Spain or England.
Swimming as normal on Thursday and Disco on Friday! Get your glad rags ready.
Happy weekend everyone.
3.3.17 Watch below for the culmination of reading week. Year 3 and 4 worked with Paul Cookson at the end of the day to create and perform our own poem. It was amazing! (Sorry, you have to look at it sideways!)
What a fab few days. Well done class 8 and don't forget to spend you book voucher.
25.2.17 SWIMMING on Thursday 2nd March
An interesting week with Storm Doris this week! I am glad we didn't go swimming. Did you hear about the tree that fell at the entrance of St Peters Junior School in Ruddington? Scary!
You have all come back ready to learn and have already produced some marvellous writing. We are naturally thinking about our sentences and using conjunctions, prepositions and adverbials as openers and conjunctions to extend sentence with detail. Don't forgot neat consistent size handwriting however- it's not just for handwriting practice!
I was really impressed with your discussions in RE and prayer. Your knowledge of what is going on in the world is impressive. The way you discuss and justify your views is really mature too! Well done!
This week we have WORLD BOOK DAY on Thursday. This involves you dressing up if you like. We WILL be going swimming so no face paints please. We will just leave our props behind in class and go in our basic costume. Make sure it is easy to take off/put on!
We will be going to the school library, reading with some younger pupils and having story time everyday! We also have an exciting visitor on Friday who is going to amaze you with his poetry!
Some where we will squeeze in a topic lesson! We will be looking at the weather conditions that Barca players cope with and those Forest players have to play in. Where would be better to play and why?
In Literacy we are continuing to use a formal, factual style when writing information texts about Barcelona.
Numeracy is continuing with time. We are going to use it to solve problems rather than 'reading' the time. If you think you need a little practice, I have put YEAR 3- TIME mathletics book in the Y3 SPRING RESOURCES folder. Just have another look at TOPIC 1 (P1-8). Keep practising your times tables too!
Science continues with Scientific skills.
Have a fab weekend. See you next week
NO SWIMMING THIS WEEK! Next session is on 2nd March
Welcome back! Hope you have all had a fab holiday. Can't wait to catch up with what you have been doing.
We are starting a new maths topic- TIME. We need to know our 5 times tables as we will be working on analogue clock as well as digital time.
Literacy we are creating Information Texts about Barcelona. We will be researching the type of information that goes into them and how they are structured and laid out.
Science is Investigative skills.
We still have to finish the RE we started last week.
I am out at a meeting this week on Thursday morning and you will have Mr Keating.
We have to talk about Book Week still and the challenge you have been set with sponsorship! Start thinking about costumes!
Have a great first week back!
SPANISH FEAST!! We made roasted pepper and olive on bread. It was tasty!
A BIG THANK YOU to Mrs Pickard and Mrs Leadingham for their help and also Mrs Allsopp and Mr Newman.
See if you can make it over half term for your family!
Happy hols everyone.
Hope you have all had a fabulous weekend. Can you believe we are coming up to half way the school year this week- 3 1/2 terms done 3 left to go. You have all worked really hard and it made me so proud of you when you all said that you all think that you have improved in your learning from September. You think that the story you have written based on Spiderwick Chronicles is much better written than the one you wrote in September based on Stone Age Boy. I agree!
This week- Literacy is a poetry
Numeracy is written methods for multiplication. Some of you found mental methods difficult last week because you don't feel confident with your 3, 4, 8 times tables. Keep practising- its very important!
Topic- Cooking Spanish dishes!
We will also be doing our RE unit on how Christians and Muslims pray.
As it is last week before the holidays we have a lot of little bits to finish and organise too. So...another busy week. Have a good night's sleep and I will see you in the morning.
Mrs T X
Morning! A bit of actual sun this morning! Get out and enjoy it while you can, being outdoors can make you feel good!
We are into our topic now and have looked at a World Map to identify where Spain and UK are in the world. We also know what both countries have to offer a holidaymaker. Beautiful coasts, tourist attractions but Spain wins on climate!
This week we are investigating how long it would take to travel from Nottingham to Barcelona. Could we go for a day trip?
Numeracy continues with using division in word problems and then onto written methods for multiplying and dividing.
Literacy- we are writing our own chapter for the Spiderwick Chronicles. I know you have loved the book so writing our own chapter is exciting!
Thank you for handing in homework on Friday- I will mark it during the week.
We are going to be cooking a Spanish dish as part of our topic in the last week of this half term. Exciting! If there is 1 parent who thinks they may be to help chop onions on Thursday 9th March in the afternoon, please do let me know! Many thanks.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
Mrs T X
Yay!! We finally got to do our assembly! You were all amazing. Thank you to your parents for providing the costumes.
This week should be fairly normal.
Continuing with Spiderwick Chronicles.
Maths- Reasoning with adding and subtracting. If you are finding it difficult remember that there is extra practice in the resource section. We MUST be able to use a column method to solve calculations. We write the answer in an expanded way when adding and you can write the calculation as a partitioned number in subtraction so you can see the exchange clearly.
We start our first lesson in Topic by looking more closely at the two cities of Barcelona and Nottingham.
Have a great rest of Sunday.
What a great first week back.I hope you enjoyed coming back to a day of art! The work you produced is of fantastic quality. It also introduced you to Spain and in particular Barcelona. As you have had the curriculum letter, you now know our topic is Barcelona V Forest. It is a geography based topic comparing the 2 cities. See curriculum mind map in resources for details.
Next week- Literacy. Spiderwick Chronicles continues. We have really enjoyed the first 2 chapters and have lots of questions about what is happening. Hopefully next week we may begin to find out some answers.
Numeracy- We are continuing with subtraction with exchange. We will use this in word problems that involve addition and subtraction.
Topic- What do we already know about Barcelona and Nottingham!
Don't forget we are going to the new Rushcliffe pool this week!
Year 3 assembly on Friday. Rehearsals this week showed me how brilliant you are going to be! Please bring in a 'Stone Age Costume for Thursday. We look forward to seeing your parents on Friday.
Have a super Sunday.
SWIMMING STARTS THURSDAY 12TH JANUARY. Please see Y3 RESOURCES for Helper Rota
Welcome to 2017 Class 8!
Hope that you all had a fantastic time with your families and friends.
We start the term with a wonderful Art Day to get you inspired with our new topic. I wonder if you will guess what it is by the end of the day?
Wed/Thurs/Fri are normal days, except we don't go swimming this week. We get to go to the new pool next week. We will use the extra time in class to go through our Year 3 assembly which was rescheduled for Friday 13th January!
In Literacy we will be reading a brand new book called the Spiderwick Chronicles.
Numeracy we will be moving onto column subtraction.
We just need to get back into our learning this week and classtroom routines and continue where with left off with fabulous work.
Have a great art day...see you tomorrow.
