Indeed, high expectations in speech, language and communication from day one in FS2 naturally strengthen the children’s ability to learn at a deeper level - allowing them to articulate their learning, demonstrate quality thinking, and apply skills / knowledge across learning.
Physical and mental wellbeing are prioritised within our curriculum design and it allows children opportunities to develop, refine and exhibit spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding.
High quality, learning environments stimulate and engage quality thinking and reasoning. Explicit weekly and medium term planning is responsive to children’s needs; incorporating a myriad of approaches to teaching and learning.
Our effective feedback policy is a framework which provides opportunity for children to reflect on their learning and think deeply in their feedback through a variety of effective approaches.
Our whole school team work to strengthen our ethos and vision to reflect upon our curriculum, and share outcomes driving forward next steps. Teachers ,curriculum leaders and governors conduct & evaluate performance analysis at individual, class, year group and key stage level; measuring it against school and local targets.
We don’t confuse coverage with progress when assessing. Learning is measured through careful analysis of application of skills across the curriculum; demonstrating how acquisition of knowledge is enhanced dramatically through strategically planned learning which fosters quality thinking and understanding, for all.
Our balanced approach to the curriculum is not at the expense of high standards in core subject areas. High standards and enabling children to reach & exceed national expectations is of vital importance if they are to succeed at the next stage of their education and go on to achieve full and happy lives, and careers.
Our curriculum aims to be what we would describe as KNOWLEDGE ENGAGED : characterised by depth of learning of key higher order skills balanced by rich knowledge led content, with an excellent range of experiences, ensuring that every pupil at Jesse Gray makes excellent progress both academically and personally. Our unique curriculum ensures that every child is given the opportunity to shine and flourish.
