Jesse Gray Basketball Club: Team JG

2015/15 Team JG Basketball Club Summary (& Goodbye!)

It is with mixed emotions that I write this final update about our wonderful Basketball team...

I just wanted to congratulate the boys and girls of Team JG for their hard work, determination and outstanding team work over the course of this season. We had a great start to the campaign, winning our first 10+ matches, and then mixed results afterwards as the Year 6s started to hand over some of the leadership responsibilities to the Year 5s in preparation for next year. I couldn't be happier with the efforts of everyone or more pleased with what we've achieved - and I haven't even mentioned our Leicester Riders trip...

I hope that Basketball continues to thrive at Jesse Gray after I leave and that you are able to build upon the unprecedented success and huge numbers of participants that we've witnessed over the past three years.

Well done Team JG, it's been a pleasure to work with you.

Thank you!

End of Season Rally Update - Date Change

Due to the sports hall at Nottingham Emmanuel School no longer being available for the South Wilford fixture on May 19th we will no longer be attending it.

Instead, I have secured an additional home rally fixture, with at least four visiting schools, on Wednesday 25th May 2016. This means that for both of the upcoming rallies Team JG can enter two teams - one Year 5 and one Year 6.

Please have a look at the dates below and let me know if you cannot make either/both dates so that I can organise  teams, table officials, starting 5s etc.

Leicester Riders Visit & Year 5 Home Fixture Results - Wednesday 30 March 2016

It was AMAZING! There's too much to tell and mere words cannot accurately convey what a wonderful experience it was... I will say that Coach Mark, the U18/U16 National League players and EVERYONE at Leicester Riders made Team JG feel welcome. At times it seemed as if we were the professional sports stars!

Photos of the training part of the session can be found on the Gallery webpage or by clicking here.

Finally, the children who were lucky enough to be selected behaved impeccably, did not stop working hard, cheering on the Riders or asking questions. I could not be prouder of how they conducted themselves. Well done to all!

Due to a clash with Parents’ Evening our Tournament next week has been rearranged. I will inform you of the new date shortly, but I expect it will be moved to Wednesday 23rd March 2016.

Enjoy the rest week and I look forward to seeing you for training on Wednesday 16th March 2016.

Fixtures & Results Update - Friday 26 February 2016

After many weeks of hard work, training and fixtures Team JG are back to winning ways!

At the start of 2016 Jesse Gray lost to Windmill LEAD Academy for the first time in a couple of years, not once but twice! Windmill's coach and players have been working really hard in recent months and I know that Team JG were high on their taget list...

I am pleased to report that on Wednesday 24th February Jesse Gray, lead by Captain Tom Southgate, attended an away rally in Sneinton and came away victorious, beating Good Shepherd by 30 points to 8 and Windmill 25 to 17.

Christmas Update - Wednesday 16 December 2015

Tonight is our last training session of 2015! We will reflect on our success and look ahead at what we need to improve upon next.

We also need to end with a bit of fun! So, as a treat for our final session, we will spend most of the time paying games and shooting competitions!

Enjoy the break, Team JG!

See you for our first session back on Wednesday January 6 2016 (3:15 - 4:30pm).

Fixture / Result Update - 3 December 2015

Team JG have continued their winning streak and remain undefeated for the 2015/2016 season.

Last night Pierrepont Gamston, Lady Bay, Windmill LEAD Academy and Jesse Gray competed in the Annual Mini Basketball Christmas Tournament. The levels of skill, competitiveness and fair play on display were huge.

Jesse Gray and Windmill started off well, both taking early leads and racking up a considerable score against Pierrepont Gamston and Lady Bay, respectively. The stand-out match had to be Team JG versus Windmill, with the visitors taking an early six point lead. Jesse Gray levelled the scores at 9 - 9 in the second quarter and players from each side traded baskets, with neither side building a considerable lead. Play continued in this way until the final quarter with Team JG taking the match 15 - 13 with seconds left on the clock. The atmosphere was great, with supporters from both sides watching. Well done to all involved!

After the match, Coach Dannheimer said that Windmill were coming for us in our next match!

Let's keep up the hard work and progress in our last two sessions of 2015!
