Autumn News 2017

15th December 2017

What a fantastic week we've had in 2L. Three successful nativity performances done and dusted and in amongst it all, some fab learning too! 

In maths we've looked at division as sharing, making equal groups and using the inverse (multiplication) to check our answers. We've done really well with this tricky concept and are starting to understand it really well! Some of us have even found remainders!

In our writing, we've created our own monster stories. They are really lovely and the class have worked really hard on them.

Have a lovely weekend, they all deserve a good rest!

Christmas hamper theme: Luxury Liquids

Please send in any gifts for our Xmas hamper so we can fill it full of anything with a Liquid theme. This could be pamper goods, food sauces, drinks or anything you spot that is liquid and a little bit special.


We have written diaries this week about how the fire spread in London in 1666. We counted change in our money topic . Next week we move onto multiplication and reading Winnie in Winter story. 

Class 2L have worked so hard and earnt their 50 marbles which means a treat day for them. We have planned fot this to be next Friday 1st December. The children can come in their own clothes and we are having a fun with books day. If they want to bring in their favourite book that would be great.

We raised £43.33 in class, thank you. We had fun deorating cup cakes with a Pudsey and spots and ate them! We have finished our Great Fire of London books and will be bringing them home next week for you to read.


We enjoyed making Tudor houses out of boxes, thank you to Leah for the material we used on them too.



We have been counting money this week. Please could you show your children any money you have and ask them to count it. Next week we will be finding the change, this would be great to practice at home too e.g You have £5 and food costs £3.30 how much change do you have? If you keep the cost to a round 10 or 5 figure that helps. We use number lines to count up from 30p to the next pound.


We have written about how the Great Fire of London  started. We used verbs and adverbs to make our sentences interesting . Next week we are going to pretend we were in London in 1666 and write a diary 

Learning Challenges : Money ( see the maths challenge section)  or Write a diary entry about what you saw when the fire started in 1666.



We had our own mini fire of London today, the children went into the playground and we set out their boxes in a line. We put them close together and set the middle box on fire. They watched how the wind blew the flames along the lines. 


Learning Challenge 2:

Explain how you would rebuild London after the fire, you could write your ideas or draw a diagram.

Maths challenge : I have put a challenge in the maths challenge section at the side of this page. Have a look for a true or false problem.


First week back and we have been giving each other instructions. We have been using verbs and wrote how to enjoy a safe firework night. We have also learnt how to add and subtract using the column method.

Learning challenge 1: Great Fire of London

Why did the fire burn so quickly?


Happy half term.

I hope you all enjoyed your week rest from school. I look forward to hearing all about it. When we get back we start learning all about the Great Fire of London and start to practice the Christmas play. 


We have written messages in a bottle this week and been adding using a number line. We finished this week by making ginger biscuits because Pirates liked to take ginger spice as treasure! Please look at our photos in the gallery to see how we did.

Weekly challenge : Pirate flags            

I have had a few diagrams of pirate ships from last week and have put them on display in the classroom. This week is our final week on pirates so could the children design their own flag or tell me about the Jolly Roger.


WOW what a week. I have been so impressed with the class. They have written pirate letters asking to become a member of the crew and been placing numbers on empty number lines.

The letters are fantastic, the children have taken care with the layout, presentation and spellings. I have put a few examples in our photo gallery for you to see.

We tried so hard thinking about where we could place numbers on an empty number line, looking at the start and end number and thinking about what would come in the middle to help us. Next week we move on to using number lines to help with addition.

We made our pirate ships this week using junk modelling. Can you find out about pirate ships and draw me a diagram with labels of what the different parts of the ship are called.

Amazing challenges.

Thank you to all the children, and helpers who have been making me smile every day as I have a delivery of amazing pirate treats on my desk! I have had terrific treasure chests made from boxes and filled with such thoughtful treasures the children have found. I have had marvellous messages in bottles washed up on the shores of Jesse Gray. They have been so cleverly made with brilliant detail, full of sand and shells! I can see the children have loved making them so thank you.


   Sprout drama      

We had fun today exploring the rain forest looking for animals with a visitor from the sprouts drama group. We even spoke banana! ( the children will explain!) We had lots of smiling faces  and laughter. Have a look at our photos on the right hand side. Each child has a letter about the sprouts drama club if they would like to do more after school.


We learnt all about the famous pirate Blackbeard and Anne Bonny last week and wrote facts about them. This week we are learning about how to set out a letter and we will write a pirate letter. 

In Numeracy we have learnt how to partition numbers into tens and ones and have started to talk about maths using mathematical language. 

Weekly Challenge : Message in a bottle       

Can you write me a pirate message? If you can tell me what you have been doing as a pirate I would love to know. If you have a plastic bottle handy you could pop it inside!

Beaumanor 21.917

We had a fun filled day at Beaumanor. We were greeted by two pirates, Angry Amy and Loopy Linda who took us on a pirate treasure hunt, we looked for clues and solved the mathematical puzzles. We had a visit to a pirate cave and heard some pirate tales and looked at some pirate objects. We ate some ginger bisuits , a pirate treasure! After lunch it rained, but as we were all pirates were weren't afraid of getting wet! We played some games before getting back on the bus. A fabulous day out. Look in our photos!

Weekly challenge: Treasure

Can you make me a list of items that pirates would take for their treasure. You could draw or make me a treasure chest full of pirate treats.  

Pirate Performance 15.9.17

Thank you everyone for being amazing pirates today and starting off our topic. We have enjoyed reading different pirate poems this week and have writtten a class one together and one of our own. In Numeracy we have been reading coordinates on a treasure map and given directions using north, south, east and west. 

Next week we will learn more pirate facts and start counting our pirate coins in 2s , 5s and 10s. Practice counting at home in 2,5, and 10.

We have enjoyed our first three days together reading three books by Jon Klassen, I want my hat back, This is not my hat and We found a hat. They have lovely illustrations that we have been sketching and  printing. We were also able to have good discussions about sharing and not to take things that are not ours. 

Next week we start our pirate topic! I look forward to meeting some parents on Monday at 2:45pm and on Friday afternoon for our pirate performance ( just a little poem and song).

Weekly Challenge : Parrots!

Can you find out if it's true pirates liked to have parrots. You could draw me a parrot or tell me any facts about pirates and their parrots.

Do you know the name of the pirate from a book Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson who had a parrot?
