About the JGA
What is the JGA?
The Jesse Gray Association (JGA) is a parent and teacher association (PTA) that creates fun for our children and brings together parents and teachers to raise money and support for our school. We are a registered charity (1136775) and are supported by our head teacher. You can find our legal constitution at the bottom of this page.
At a time when school budgets are being cut the money we raise is ever more important, funding those things which make our children’s education all the more enjoyable.
In recent years, we have raised thousands of pounds in various ways such as school discos, annual summer fayres, bonfire parties, Christmas fundraisers, football tournaments and curry and quiz nights.
Our vision and values
We support our school commitments to Achieve, Inspire, Challenge and Enjoy.
Our goal is to raise funds for what our children and school needs.
The events we produce, the activities we support and the time we give are crucial to the success of the JGA but these commitments cannot be made without the kind support of parents. The work we undertake varies massively so whatever you can give to the JGA, no matter how big or small, how regular or infrequent, we welcome all parents and any time you can give.
When we meet
We get together for an hour or so once a month, at the school or another West Bridgford venue, usually on a Monday evening between 8pm and 9.30pm.
We let parents know the details of the next meeting, 21 days in advance, by issuing an email and / or text from the school office. This date can also now be found on the website.
We do give generously with our time and efforts in raising money, but we also have a lot of fun doing so, and we make our meetings as sociable as possible.
We are always on the look out for new members and welcome parents to attend meetings. Nobody is expected to attend every monthly meeting or help on every event.
We support and manage our meetings with regular attendance from the core JGA team made up of:
- Chair - Rebecca Muldoon (appt at1 April 2017)
- Vice Chair - Jo Travis (appt at1 April 2018)
- Treasurer – Lucy Marciani (appt at1 April 2017)
- Secretary - Sue Haria (appt at1 April 2018)
These roles are taken on a voluntary basis, with various other jobs shared around amongst others who attend the meetings who want to do that bit extra.
The agenda of each meeting is:
- Notification of those present, known members unable to attend and the individual taking minutes
- Actions taken following the last meeting
- Notes from Chair's meeting with the head teacher
- Event by event update
- Budget and spend
- Ideas forum
- Requests for next month’s agenda
We host regular annual fun family events to bring the school community together including the summer fayre, twice annual school discos and alternate bonfire night and Christmas party events.
We are always looking for volunteers to support on these events, with roles from logistics and planning, running a stall to lending an hour on the clean-up rota.
We plan regular events throughout the academic school year, implementing as many new ideas as we can. Planning in advance allows us to request the use of the school as early as possible as the hall is regularly let out to other organisations and community groups.
How do I get involved?
The JGA is a group completely reliant on time kindly volunteered by parents.
We’re always looking for new ideas and skills that will help us plan new and exciting fundraising activities for our school. So if you have a background in marketing, discounted goods or services or you play in a band that can entertain us all at the next outdoor event, your talents are always welcome - however much time you can give.
What’s more you’ll make new friends and learn new skills. If you can spare an hour once a month, once a term or even just once a year, it all helps to make a big difference.
If you aren’t able to or would prefer not to attend our meetings, then you can still volunteer to help at any of our events.
Please get in touch anytime by:
- emailing us at email@example.com
- catching a JGA trustee you may know at the school gates
- or just popping along to our monthly meeting.
We’d love to hear from you, and don’t think we are just made up of mums – dads and grandparents are welcome too! We always love to have new people on board. It’s a great way to get to know new faces around the school.
By registering your interest you can find out more. You are not automatically tied into helping, so please rest assured you won’t be signed up to anything unwillingly!
